On 7 December, four volunteers from the Brighter Uckfield group spent 45 minutes removing the litter from behind the platform at Uckfield Railway Station. Brighter Uckfield will be keeping a close watch on the time it takes for this amount of litter to build up, but it is believed that it is not long. Volunteers have an idea of what might be done to cut down the amount, which tends to accumulate immediately behind the shelters on the platform.
A programme of improvements to the environment at Oxted station is continuing with the installation of the huge custom art panel, that has been erected in the station’s ticket hall.
The artwork was commissioned by Southern, an interpretation by community artist Graham Upton, of a recent Southern poster. This bright, colourful panel is a great addition and has really ‘lifted’ the ticket hall as the new planters have done to the platforms now that the plants are beginning to mature.
