2017 Events

  • 16 November – Webinar: Communicating Community Rail

As a follow up to the new Communicating Community Rail report, this free webinar ran through its key findings and how you can raise the profile of community rail in your community and get more people involved locally.

This webinar ws hosted by ACoRP’s Chief Executive Jools Townsend and guest contributor Mike Parker-Bray from Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership.

  • 5 October – Community Rail Awards 2017 | Derby

The annual Community Rail Awards recognise and reward the hard work and dedication of the community rail family. The 2017 awards ceremony and gala dinner was held at The Roundhouse in Derby, along with a programme of associated events organised by East Midlands Trains.

  • 11 October – Webinar: Getting Started with Station Buildings

This webinar looked in brief at how to get started with reusing local station buildings, how to find the potential in your buildings, how to involve and explore the needs of the local community, and identifying potential funding streams. The webinar was hosted by ACoRP’s Community Stations Development Manager Martin Yallop with the Railway Heritage Trust’s Executive Director Andy Savage as a guest contributor.

25 September – Report: Communicating Community Rail Report

This report sponsored by Northern discusses what research tells us and good practice looks like in terms of communications within and about the community rail movement. It supports community rail partnerships and groups to develop their communications activities in a way most likely to be effective in reaching and engaging communities more widely, building support for and involvement in community rail, and promoting rail as a key part of sustainable, healthy travel.

This report is now available to download on the ACoRP website and will be followed up with a webinar on the topic on 16 November.

10 September – Heritage Open Day | The Old Water Tower, Huddersfield Railway Station, St. George’s Square, Huddersfield, HD1 1JF

Come and see up close the restoration of this 1870’s water tower that used to supply steam locomotives with water at Huddersfield station. Today, it’s the home to ACoRP and an excellent example of how disused railway buildings can be brought back to life.

5 June – ACoRP Seminar for Community Rail Partnerships and Station Adopters | Transport for Greater Manchester, 2 Piccadilly Place, Manchester, M1 3BG & 6 June – ACoRP Seminar for Community Rail Partnerships and Station Adopters | Fujitsu Services, 22 Baker Street, London, W1U 3BW
ACoRP’s Seminars are an opportunity for Community Rail Partnerships and Station Adopters to get together for updates on the latest information from ACoRP, to swap good practice and for training.

17 May – Community Rail in the City

Community Rail in the City is an annual event where Community Rail Partnerships get together in major stations for the day to highlight their work and reasons to travel along their lines. This year’s event included:

Lancaster – Bentham Line CRP
Leeds – Penistone Line CRP
London King’s Cross – Poacher Line CRP

London Liverpool Street – Essex & South Suffolk, East Suffolk and Norfolk CRPs
London Paddington – Devon & Cornwall RP
London Waterloo – TransWilts, Isle of Wight and Three Rivers CRPs
London Blackfriars – Sussex CRP
Manchester Piccadilly – CR Humber

This year’s event also saw the launch of the new Scenic Rail Britain website.

22-23 March – Department for Transport Community Rail Seminar (formerly the Designated Lines Seminar) | DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Brayford Wharf North, Lincoln, LN1 1YW

The Community Rail Seminar was an invitation only event organised by ACoRP on behalf of the Department for Transport. It was an opportunity for key figures throughout the community rail sector in England and Wales to get together for workshops, updates, networking and to provide feedback on strategy consultations.
