The Isle of Wight CRP helped Ann Abe and Mary Collis realise their dream last year when they helped facilitate funding from South West Trains, Southern Vectis and ACoRP’s small grants fund to pay for Cheeko the Squirrel costume.
This was to literally bring the characters to life in what’s planned to be the first of many books, featuring Cheeko, Aunty M and Tatty-Anna travelling around the Isle of Wight by train looking for the greedy squirrel’s nuts. Cheeko will be giving guest appearances for children to meet him on the train a during the Easter holidays
The books are £5.00 each and there is also a CD with songs featured in the shows that are planned, also later this year where Cheeko will be joined by other characters. You can find the books at Ryde Esplanade, Brading Station, The Gaslight Café in Sandown Station, Shanklin Station and at the Tourism Office in the Guidhall, Newport.
John Davies, Sandown’s Town Crier announced the event in true form and Mayor Rajesh Patel said a few words about the project. There then followed a small reception attended by ACoRP, South West Trains, Southern Vectis, Sandown’s Community Kids and volunteers in the Gaslight Café, where guitarist Brian White entertained the audience.
