At the North Downs Community Rail Partnership meeting held last week, Peter Morris of the North Downs Way announced that funding had been successfully secured for signage to be sited at stations between Reigate and Guildford. The new signs will delineate walking routes from the North Downs Line to the North Downs Way long-distance path as well as describing local walks from each station. Surrey Hills ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ will also contribute money and resources towards the project, seeking to bring more people into this beautiful countryside.
The meeting at the Tanyard Hall in Gomshall was hosted by Shere & Gomshall Parish Council and 20 partners heard that funding had also been provided by GWR, Surrey County Council and Guildford Borough Council to enable Network Rail to carry out a study of the rail level crossings on the line. This study will provide information to hasten the provision of three trains an hour on the line.
Partnership chairman, Surrey County Councillor Mike Goodman, said “the improvement in the service is crucial to the further support and economic development of the communities along the line.
