On Tuesday 4 July we launched the first completed section of the trail which is in Shropshire, between Craven Arms and Knighton.

At Craven Arms station Lewis Brencher for Arriva Trains Wales; Dave Stanbury for Network Rail and Cllr Lezley Picton for Shropshire Council were there to unveil a banner marking the beginning of the trail. Thank you,Shropshire Council for all your work and support.

The route description for the open section from Craven Arms to Knighton is available on the Heart of Wales Line website.

Powys County Council

The Powys section of the Trail is substantial and has required additional investment, but will be well worth the time and trouble when it’s completed.

Powys Rights of Way Team have been very supportive. We all knew how challenging this section was going to be, but with so much good will, expertise and the will to succeed, we are getting there.

Brecon Beacons National Park

BBNPA Rights of Way team is checking the route through the western edge of the Park and have suggested an improved route in the Castell Carreg Cennen area; this has been adopted by the Steering Group.

We received extra financial support from The Ramblers Holiday Charitable Trust to provide roundels for the trail and from Lower Wye Valley Ramblers and the Long Distance Walkers Association for particular sections that required expensive new walking infrastructure. This investment means that you get to walk in fabulous open country, rather than on the roads.
